This is a family of guitars with 3 variations on the basic design.

Conceived for a large sound, the soundbox dimensions work this nicely and without the boominess of a dreadnought model. The body shape and central soundhole are designed for acoustics and comfort : your picking hand rests at the 'sweet spot'. A very balanced instrument with consistent note projection all the way up the fretboard. Exceptional for jazz fingerstylists and open tuning players and in addition works excellent for quick flatpicking. The standout feature with this model is the clear and wonderful bass register and cool trebles, partly credited to the slightly shallower body, as seen in the Prairie State.

Commodore Harlequin

A concept for presence. The tone and response of this guitar is sensitive and crisp. The pairing of two species for the soundboard- cedar and spruce- creates a rare positive chemistry of timbre and projection. These woods are Englemann spruce and western red cedar. Both have been used exclusively but not in conjunction. To my ears Englemann indeed has the tone balance of spruce but contains elements that place it closer to cedar than other spruces, in that it is slightly warmer in tone. This itself lends to the compatibility of the two woods. In summary : the cedar tones down the trebles and the spruce tightens up the bass giving excellent balance. The Harlequin motif is carried through visually with the rosette, which is wood inlaid half white and half black.

Commodore Baritone

As of 2002 I now offer this model in a baritone with a 27" scale length. Let me know your preferred tuning to finalise the correct scale length and string gauges. The lowest open string can be from an A to C. Check out the DADGAD model for more on the long-scale guitar.
